Job Title:¬ Construction Superintendent¬ Department:¬ Operations

Position Summary:¬  Provide a brief description of the general nature of the position; an overview of why the job exists; and what the job is to accomplish.¬  The job purpose is usually no more than four sentences long.
The Construction Superintendent will be responsible for the daily direction, coordination and completion of assigned construction/project/operations including staff, administration, constructability/production analysis, coordinating subcontractors, safety, quality control and schedule performance. This position will also be responsible for the scheduling and supervision of workers assigned to his/her project/operations including but not limited to administrative staff, foremen, laborers, operators etc. and that all work is performed according to plans, specifications, deadlines and within budget and company P&L goals. The general nature of this position, duties and title may vary depending on job type, project, site location and business assigned.

30%¬ Leadership and Supervision:

‚€Ę¬ Manages and coordinates the day-to-day operations of a project/ operational activity.
‚€Ę¬ Conducts a continuing review of work standards, expectations and work practices to continue to improve project/operation effectiveness.
‚€Ę¬ Supervises, communicates with and counsels the field project team on best practices, project developments and trends, including but not limited to, project issues, codes and compliance, costs, safety and training opportunities.
‚€Ę¬ Develops, and communicates to the project/operations team measurements, periodic management reports necessary to track project accomplishment, crew goals and effectiveness.
‚€Ę¬ Supervises all schedules, completion dates, plans and costs.
‚€Ę¬ Directs the workload of supporting staff to include, training,¬  mentoring, and follow-up to improve productivity
‚€Ę¬ Reviews weekly job costs reports, actively participates in weekly company status meetings to analyze the project/production process in order to accomplish the most efficient installation/production methods and cost control to stay within budget specifications and meet completion deadlines.
‚€Ę¬ Supervise Foremen and staff assigned to the project/operation to ensure compliance to project/operation specifications and benchmarks.
‚€Ę¬ Plans, directs and supervises different projects depending on work assignment, site location and business including but not limited to production operations, highway construction, plant operations, civil construction, and/or aggregate operations..
‚€Ę¬ Confers with and directs supervisory personnel regarding¬ ¬  applicable contract labor, laborers and other staff engaged in the planning and execution of work procedures, specifications and meeting project production completion timelines.
‚€Ę¬ Manages and reacts to any changes in the scope of work to avoid any avoidable re-work.

10%¬ Training:

‚€Ę¬ Coordinates and/or delivers training programs, including necessary educational materials, workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports to ensure each worker for each task are fully qualified to perform assigned duties.
‚€Ę¬ Coordinates and/or provides, mentoring, training including but not limited to safety, sexual harassment and company policies, standards, procedures and work requirements.
‚€Ę¬ Ensures that new employee onboarding and orientation is completed and fosters a positive view of the company and its goals.


35%¬ Job Preparation and Maintenance:

‚€Ę¬ Reviews project/activity specifications in order to plan procedures for construction, start and finish times, staffing and any sub-contractor requirements for each phase of the project.
‚€Ę¬ Resolve any issues including productivity, work interfaces.
‚€Ę¬ Inspects work in progress, materials needed, material used, costs, punch lists, and adjusts schedules as needed based on this data.
‚€Ę¬ Performs constructability/production analysis of project documents, including specifications, site conditions, contracts and building codes.
‚€Ę¬ Obtains all inspections and ensures all quality aspects are documented.
‚€Ę¬ Ensures that all aspects of the project/operations are compliant with contract terms, company specification and standards and applicable legal requirements that govern the project or activity.
‚€Ę¬ Conducts and/or attends pre-construction, progress and other project/activities as well as any staff meetings.
‚€Ę¬ Meets with client representatives (internal and external clients) on a regular basis to discuss project/activity status to keep clients knowledgeable regarding project/operation progress, productivity, schedules and completion dates.
‚€Ę¬ Ensures that daily paperwork such as timecards, reports,, schedule updates and e-mail correspondence¬  are maintained and filed.
‚€Ę¬ Ensures that all worker tools, materials and equipment are available for the project/activity.
‚€Ę¬ Maintains liaison with other departments including but not limited to Safety, Purchasing, Quality Control, Engineering, Regional/Local Site Management, HR and IT on matters of significance.
‚€Ę¬ Ensures that any applicable local union CBA's and/or federal/state prevailing wage rates guidelines are monitored, implemented and maintained per project/operation requirements.
‚€Ę¬ Maintains project or operational budgets by monitoring expenditures, identifying variances and implementing corrective action as required.

15%¬ Safety Compliance:

‚€Ę¬ Creates and maintains a culture that values safety, health and cleanliness.
‚€Ę¬ Proactively conducts initial project/operations safety and hazard assessments to prevent safety incidents.
‚€Ę¬ Conducts safety/incident investigations with corrective action to prevent future incidents.
‚€Ę¬ Ensures company safety policies in accordance with SOP, and all OHSA and any state level agencies regulations are enforced.


10%¬ Employee Relations:
‚€Ę¬ Maintains adherence to company policies and procedures by the work crew to ensure a respectful, productive and inclusive work environment.
‚€Ę¬ Addresses and resolves issues among work crew team members including administering discipline according to company guidelines.

‚€Ę¬ Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job satisfactorily
‚€Ę¬ AS degree in construction management/construction industry operations management or equivalent relevant experience including Journeyman status in a building or applicable trade.
‚€Ę¬ Additional specialized technical instruction including Journeyman status in a construction trade and/or project supervision, estimating, design, codes and compliance, site control, safety, scheduling experience required
‚€Ę¬ Minimum of 5- 7 years' progressive leadership experience in construction site control and/or construction materials operation environment in a company business unit with 10 or more employees in a nonunion and/or union environment.
‚€Ę¬ General knowledge and understanding of various safety and codes and compliance including OHSA regulations and corresponding state and local codes and statues.
‚€Ę¬ General knowledge of local and state prevailing wage rate guidelines.

On-call 24-7 availability may be required during the peak construction/production season with high stress levels and workloads.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
